Loyola University New Orleans is offering a fall and spring one-day conference for high school journalism students and advisers on campus to replace the prestigious Silver Scribe Journalism Contest.
This will be through the Journalism Education Association — a National scholastic journalism organization for teachers and advisers.
Our dates are Thursday, Sept. 28, and Thursday, Jan. 25, both 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The sessions are geared to yearbook, newspaper, online and broadcast journalism students and advisers. In the September session, we will give you information that you and your students can use during the school year.
Proposed sessions would include digital storytelling, photography, videography, interviewing techniques, creating online portfolios, social media strategies, headline and summary writing, critical review, etc.
In January, we will have a journalism competition focusing on the same skills. During this competition, we will award the JEA Louisiana State Journalist of the Year and the Tom Bell Loyola University Silver Scribe awards. The JEA Louisiana State Journalist of the Year would represent Louisiana in the JEA Spring 2018 National Convention in San Francisco.
I appreciate any feedback that you have on the proposed conference and if this is something you would be interested in attending with your students.
