WELCOME TO THE JEA LOUISIANA WEBSITE

My name is Albert Dupont and I am currently the Technology Coordinator for the School of Mass Communication at Loyola University in New Orleans and the JEA Louisiana State Director.

From August 2005 – March of 2017 I was a Teacher at the St. Charles Parish Public Schools Satellite Center in Luling, LA.  I taught Advanced TV Broadcasting to students who attend Hahnville and Destrehan High Schools and was the Adviser for the Press Play Productions Program.  Press Play Productions is a student-run, student-led, broadcast production program.

Before becoming a Teacher, I spent nearly 17 years in broadcasting at KATC-TV, WAFB-TV and WVUE-TV as a news producer, videographer and editor.

Dupont_2015I became involved in the Journalism Education Association a few years ago after attending the Spring 2014 Convention in San Diego.  I was hooked!  The JEA Convention opened my eyes to the many opportunities and resources that are available to broadcasting teachers and students.

My first involvement was writing a few posts for the JEA Digital Media Website and also attending some of their National Conferences.  I was able to bring students to the Spring 2015 Convention in Denver and recently brought two Students to the Spring 2016 Convention in Los Angeles.  I was also able to present sessions at the Fall 2017 JEA Conference in Indianapolis.

I was named the Louisiana State Director for the JEA in January of 2016 and look forward to growing the organization in Louisiana for Yearbook, Newspaper, Online and Broadcast High School and Middle School programs.JEA_4c

Journalism is not dead!  In fact I believe it is stronger than ever with more and more people, especially students, having access to storytelling tools and a potential worldwide audience.  Journalism is evolving, and as Journalism Teachers we have to stay on top of the current technologies and platforms to better prepare our Students who are the next generation of Journalists.
